Escient Pharmaceuticals is a San Diego based a clinical-stage company focused on developing novel therapeutics to address a broad range of neurosensory-inflammatory disorders. The company’s pipeline includes two first-in-class small molecule antagonists targeting MRGPRX2 for the treatment of various mast cell mediated disorders and MRGPRX4 for cholestatic pruritus. Escient is led by an experienced management and scientific team and funded by top-tier life science investors.

The Sr Manager, Strategic Finance & Investor Relations will play a critical role in the Finance team supporting strategic finance, investor relations, and corporate development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Investor Relations

  • Helps develop a robust investor relations strategy and framework alongside the CFO, including messaging that builds investor confidence in company’s operational plan and strategic vision.
  • Coordinates interactions with investors and broker research analysts, including company attendance at investor conferences and events.
  • Helps coordinate and create content for company announcements such as press releases, accompanying presentations, talking points and relevant Q&A.
  • Helps prepare and educate leaders internally for meetings with the investment community, media responses, insights on market activity. Present to leadership as necessary.
  • Stays current on all company and related industry activity to be responsive to investors and media. 

Strategic Finance & Corporate Development

  • Partners with CFO and FP&A to map out a range of forecast and valuation scenarios and enable scenario planning at the Leadership, Executive and Board level.
  • Supports corporate development transactions, including financings, partnerships, M&A. Manages due diligence process, virtual data room, valuation modeling, and serves as liaison with legal.
  • Conducts research and analysis to support business development and competitive intelligence activities.
  • Provides leverage to the team by leading the creation of high-quality presentations for a range of key audiences, including potential partners, executives and the Board of Directors.
  • Supports overall corporate strategy and assists senior leadership with high-impact special projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Science or related field, MBA a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience working in some combination of the following: investment banking, management consulting, or corporate finance focused on the biotech or pharma sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and influence effectively cross-functionally.
  • Knowledgeable about drug development process and current biotech industry trends.
  • Understanding of capital markets - both public and private.
  • Exceptional financial modeling skills, valuation/analytical skills, creativity in problem-solving, a keen business sense and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative with ability to work both independently and within a team; ability to prioritize and multitask in a dynamic environment.

Salary Range: $145,000 - $170,000
