Job Description

Neurona Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in South San Francisco focused on the
development of cell-based therapies for neurological diseases. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual
who has a strong track record of leading an organization’s accounting operations. This role is a hands-on leadership
position that will oversee a junior accounting staff and is a fantastic opportunity to take part in building an exciting,
science-driven company.

POSITION SUMMARY
Our Finance team is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and direct the accounting function of the Company.
 
Key Responsibilities:
● Manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, vendor
maintenance, payroll processing.
● Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of balance
sheet reconciliations and journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
(GAAP).
● Prepare timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
● Ensure timely and accurate recording of all transactions.
● Provide timely and accurate information to key stakeholders, including executive and key members of
management, board of directors, audit committee and external auditors.
● Lead annual audit at Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards; implement any
corrective actions necessary to mitigate financial risks.
● Research technical accounting issues for compliance; write accounting memos to document the Company’s
interpretation of the issues.
● Maintain and enforce a documented system of accounting policies and procedures to ensure strong internal
controls.
● Perform cash projections to assist in cash management.
● Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and legislation.
● Manage all aspects of tax compliance including assistance to and coordination of outside tax provider
activities.
● Assist in annual and quarter budget processes, forecasting, and financial analyses.
 
Required Qualifications and Skills:
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, or related field.
● Certified Public Accountant license required.
● 10+ years of progressively responsible experience and training.
● Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm preferred.
● Public company experience preferred.
● Life sciences experience preferred.
● Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting and both day-to-day and technical accounting.
● Management experience and ability to create a team environment.
● Supervisory experience with a consistent track record of meeting closing and other deadlines.
● Ability to effectively communicate accounting results to both accounting and non-accounting customers at
various levels of the organization.
● Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software including NetSuite, Bill.com, Point Purchasing.
