Job Description

Revolution Medicines is a clinical-stage precision oncology company focused on developing novel targeted therapies to inhibit frontier targets in RAS-addicted cancers.  The company’s R&D pipeline comprises RAS(ON) Inhibitors designed to suppress diverse oncogenic variants of RAS proteins, and RAS Companion Inhibitors for use in combination treatment strategies. As a new member of the Revolution Medicines team, you will join other outstanding professionals in a tireless commitment to patients with cancers harboring mutations in the RAS signaling pathway.

The Executive Director, Head of Medical Excellence is a senior medical affairs leader who will play a critical role in executing the global medical strategy across the Revolution Medicines portfolio. This position reports directly to the SVP, Head of Global Medical Affairs and is a key member of the Medical Affairs leadership team. He/she will be responsible for ensuring the quality, consistency and excellence of all medical activities. This individual will build and lead a team of high-performing medical professionals focused on delivering core medical capabilities, including publications, medical content and training, scientific engagement, congress activities, medical governance, MSL excellence, medical information, medical operations and governance, analytics, and independent medical education.

This leader will work closely with medical strategy teams, field medical teams, patient advocacy, clinical development, HEOR, commercial and other internal stakeholders to ensure alignment of medical capabilities with strategic priorities across the organization. He/she will continuously evaluate and refine the capabilities necessary to successfully execute global medical strategies and support the broader organization.

The Opportunity:

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and coach a team of medical excellence functional leaders.

  • Create and align the Global Medical Excellence Plan with the strategic goals and objectives of the Global Medical Affairs Plan and the broader organization.

  • Partner with Information Technology to evaluate and implement appropriate systems to ensure medical excellence.

  • Develop, deploy, and monitor key performance indicators for the medical affairs team; deliver and communicate reports to senior leadership monthly and as needed.

  • Provide leadership to the Medical Excellence team; develop and track team goals and ensure technical/ skills training.

  • Encourage and identify opportunities for professional development across the Medical Excellence team including developing and deploying career mapping.

  • Drive strategic development, execution, and implementation of all activities within the Medical Excellence function – Publications, Medical Content and Training, MSL Excellence, Medical Information, Scientific Engagement and Congress materials and Advisory Board materials (in collaboration with the global and regional Medical Affairs teams), Medical Operations and Governance, Medical Analytics and Independent Medical Education.

  • Uphold and ensure compliance standards across the medical team; support adherence to relevant regulatory requirements, required training and company Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Implement systems to support insight generation to ensure actionable insights are captured and communicated across the organization.

  • Identify opportunities to support compliant and effective cross-functional collaboration across Clinical Development, Medical Affairs and Commercial teams, as needed and appropriate.

  • Provide strong input to strategic planning to ensure alignment with tactical execution.

  • Foster a culture of empowerment, collaboration, and a focus on patient impact.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Advanced, medical/scientific doctoral level degree required: MD, PharmD, PhD.

  • Demonstrated ability to create departmental capabilities, processes, and procedures to ensure alignment with desired outcomes.

  • 10+ years of experience in the Pharmaceutical or Biotech Industry with Medical Affairs.

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role managing a medical affairs-focused team.

  • Global product launch experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in oncology.

  • Demonstrated experience recruiting, hiring, and retaining talent.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills (proactive, strategic, creates a highly accountable team culture, provides clear direction), project management and organizational skills, with the ability to evaluate competing priorities to arrive at an appropriate decision.

  • Collaborative, team-based approach; ability to network and partner with internal and external stakeholders, including medical thought-leaders and a wide range healthcare professional.

  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.

Preferred Skills:

  • 15+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Expertise in medical planning.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $270,000 - $320,000 for candidates based at our headquarters in Redwood City, CA. The range displayed on each job posting is intended to be the minimum and maximum salary for the position in Redwood City and will be adjusted for the local market a candidate is based. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, market dynamics, and relevant education or training.
