Position Description

The Scientist I/II will work with Tr1X’s Virology/Molecular Biology team to design and execute studies in cell lines and primary immune cells to characterize candidate viral vectors and processes to support pipeline program advancement. This role offers exposure to company leadership, prime mentoring and scientific training, and an opportunity to be a high-impact contributor to the company’s mission and vision. The successful candidate will have demonstrable expertise in molecular cloning, lentiviral vector design and production and the design and execution of gene editing experiments in primary immune cells. 

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Design and produce viral vector plasmids and stocks in support of program goals.
  • Perform experiments in cell culture and primary cells to verify and optimize viral vector performance and gene editing protocols.
  • Maintain detailed and highly organized documentation of experimental procedures, data, and generated products.
  • Analyze data in a timely manner and present findings at team/departmental meetings.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of principles and techniques in molecular cloning, cell culture, lentiviral vector biology and viral vector production
  • Keep up to date - on industry knowledge and advancements; provide input on optimization of design, process, or capability.
  • Contribute – Be a subject matter expert and contribute to project direction, prioritization and mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor junior Research Associates to help them reach the next level
  • Collaborate - and work effectively with Discovery Biology, Translational Sciences and CMC teams.

You have:

  • A PhD in virology, molecular biology, microbiology, or related field with a 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong expertise in the design and molecular cloning of lentiviral vector plasmids
  • Expertise in molecular cloning techniques (PCR, Restriction digesting, Gibson/Infusion assembly, gel electrophoresis, plasmid prepping)
  • Skilled with primer design, Sanger sequencing, and molecular biology and sequence analysis software, such as SnapGene.
  • Expertise in multicolor flow cytometry and subsequent analysis using FlowJo software
  • Experience with GraphPad Prism and Microsoft Office Suite programs for data analysis, presentations and report and protocol writing.
  • Good knowledge of principles and techniques in LVV biology and molecular biology
  • High-level capability with mammalian tissue culture, primary T-cell culture, and viral vector production
  • Ability to interpret results analytically in a timely manner and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Great attention to detail. Agile and flexible mindset yet highly organized.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under various timeline pressures, drive tasks to completion, and anticipate and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
  • Hands-on experience supervising and mentoring junior personnel
  • Previous experience with electronic lab notebooks (ELN).
  • The ability to perform in a start-up environment.

Optimally you also have

  • Knowledge of multiple viral vector expression platforms and industrial process development.
  • Experience with the design and execution of knockout and knock-in experiments in primary cells
  • Previous cell therapy experience.
  • Experience with LNPs or similar non-viral gene delivery modalities
