We are seeking a motivated Pathology Senior Scientist/Pathology Principal Scientist to join our Pathology/Translational Sciences Team and champion the tissue-based molecular methods that support our clinical and nonclinical research.

Pathology supports nonclinical (disease model development, efficacy, toxicology) and clinical studies, resulting in a high impact across NGMBio’s portfolio. The ideal candidate has already demonstrated proficiency in multiplex immunohistochemistry (Mx IHC) and IHC automation. The group already has strong expertise in single plex and multiplex assays, image analysis (Visiopharm, Python), biomarker identification, and data integration. The position offers the opportunity to work in a cutting edge pathology lab, interact with scientists across the organization, and implement novel molecular pathology methods and tracking systems. 

The Responsibilities Include

  • Work in the pathology team to support immunohistochemistry, slide scanning, quality control, and specimen tracking; Implement Quality control for  the IHC results.
  • Identify and implement novel technologies related to LIMS, IMS and multiplexing.
  • Identify practical solutions to overcome variability issues, including troubleshooting and streamlining laboratory processes. 
  • Support NGM Biotherapeutics Research and Clinical Development by representing Pathology and communicate the pathology results in Project Team and Company meetings.
  • Supervise the interactions with CROs and vendors.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Experience: 10+ years experience in Pathology Laboratories in Biomedical Research. 
  • Hands-on experience with multiplex immunohistochemistry using platforms such as Akoya/Polaris/inForm, Ultivue, Lunaphore, Phenocycler, CellIdx or GeoMX DSP.
  • Expert user and able to trouble-shoot on at least one of the routine immunohistochemistry platform.
  • Appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasks, including collaboration on shared documents (Google suite), and authoring and presenting the result of their work and that of others.
  • Demonstrates high level of technical expertise and contributes to the completion of projects by planning and coordinating using the Laboratory and CRO resources.
  • Accustomed to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual.
  • Self-motivated, able to work in cross-functional global teams in a dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to lead and build relationships and influence decision-making.
