Job Description

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix’s extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix’s drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.

Nurix’s wholly owned pipeline comprises targeted protein degraders of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase, a B-cell signaling protein, and inhibitors of Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene-B, an E3 ligase that regulates T cell activation. Nurix is headquartered in San Francisco, California.


We are seeking a creative organic chemist to join our High Throughput Chemistry group at Nurix.

  • This candidate will be responsible for the design and execution of automated parallel synthesis experiments.
  • The person will also interact with Medicinal Chemists and/or DNA-encoded library (DEL) scientists to optimize and validate chemical routes for their transfer to parallel synthesis platforms using both solution phase and solid phase chemistry approaches.
  • They will also participate in the design, development, optimization, validation, and integration of complex automation configurations for high-throughput parallel synthetic applications.
  • The right candidate will have opportunities to actively participate in medicinal chemistry projects such as hit-to-lead optimizations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Synthesis of chemical arrays using automated synthesis platforms.
  • Integrate and establish workflows with automation robots, such as liquid handlers, solid dispensers, parallel synthesizers, and high throughput analytical systems.
  • Develop new methodologies for solid phase and /or solution parallel automated synthesis approaches.
  • Contribute to maintaining automation systems and developing new protocols.
  • Collaborate with medicinal chemistry teams and/or DEL scientists to apply automated chemistry capabilities to accelerate the discovery chemistry program.
  • Participate in the design of new chemical arrays for Medicinal Chemistry projects.
  • Contributing to scientific strategies and goals within a project team setting.
  • Provide training to medicinal chemists on the usage of instrumentation when necessary

Desired Skills and Experience


  • Doctorate degree in organic chemistry or a related field.


  • Master's degree and 2 years of medicinal chemistry or pharmaceutical research experience


  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of medicinal chemistry or pharmaceutical research experience


  • A solid understanding of organic chemistry
  • Practical knowledge of parallel synthetic techniques for medicinal chemistry optimization
  • The ability to work in a cross-functional environment with a can-do attitude to drive productivity and efficiency
  • Maintaining a very productive lab presence
  • Experience with modern cheminformatics tools, computational tools, enumeration tools, and other scientific software for drug discovery
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), leadership skills, and the ability to work well in teams
  • Strong organization and communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Initiative and desire to learn the application of automation platforms to high throughput synthesis


  • Knowledge of solid phase chemistry principles and/or solid support bound catalysts/reagent used in solution phase chemistry is preferred but not mandatory.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in designing, building, and integrating complex automation configurations for high-throughput applications in pharmaceutical, biotech or related industry is preferred
  • Experience with operating and programming liquid handling robotics platforms
  • Practical knowledge of Hamilton VoV programming and/or Tecan Fluent is strongly preferred
  • Experience with high throughput synthesis systems.
  • The ability to operate, maintain and troubleshoot minor issues with high throughput synthesis systems.
