Job Description

NGM Biopharmaceuticals, Inc. is focused on discovering and developing novel, life-changing medicines for people whose health and lives have been disrupted by disease.  Our biology-centric drug discovery approach aims to seamlessly integrate interrogation of complex disease-associated biology and protein engineering expertise to unlock proprietary insights that are leveraged to generate promising product candidates and enable their rapid advancement into proof-of-concept studies. As explorers on the frontier of life-changing science, we aspire to operate one of the most productive research and development engines in the biopharmaceutical industry and our research team has a track record of producing an average of one new IND candidate per year. Today the company has seven disclosed programs, including four in Phase 2 or 2b studies, across three therapeutic areas: cancer, retinal diseases, and liver and metabolic diseases.

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Manager of Corporate Communications to design and drive a well-rounded external and internal communications strategy in close partnership with NGM Bio’s senior leaders as well as People Operations function. This role offers the right candidate the ability to help establish and lead the corporate communication function at NGM Bio. The position reports to the Head of Investor Relations & Corporate Finance.  This role will be highly cross functional and expected to engage with every function across NGM Bio.

External Communications

  • In partnership with Investor Relations and the People Operations team, this person will develop and implement a external and internal communications strategy and establish a cadence of consistent communication that amplifies the perception of NGM Bio as a pioneer on the frontier of life-changing science by highlighting the companies best-in-class discovery engine and portfolio of development stage programs
  • Plan and execute a strategy to effectively highlight NGM’s achievement of corporate milestones, clinical progress, groundbreaking research and exceptional team to external audiences
  • Implement an action plan to effectively target NGM Bio’s various external audiences including potential hires, clinical investigators, collaborators and investors
  • Coordinate internal communications programs including company all-hands, internal newsletters and corporate updates
  • Maintain NGM Bio’s corporate communication vehicles, including ongoing maintenance and accuracy of the corporate website
  • Ensure consistent and accurate representation of the company’s mission, vision, values, culture, and strategy into all Company communications
  • Own all aspects of NGM Bio's presence across social media channels, such as LinkedIn and Twitter

Internal Communications

  • Partner with functional leaders and subject matter experts to manage a clear and compelling corporate narrative that articulates our principles, mission and core values
  • In partnership with the People team, develop an effective employee communications strategy that strengthens employer branding, recruitment, employee engagement, and company culture
  • Bring NGM Bio’s inspiring culture of biological exploration coupled with no-ego collaboration to life!
  • Synchronize external communications of corporate developments and highlights with an effective internal communication cascades
  • Facilitate internal executive communication activities including planning and project management of all-staff meetings
  • Streamline and bring consistency to all internal communications channels

About you

  • A high performer with communications experience at a healthcare/biotechnology company or PR/Marketing firm
  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree a plus
  • A passion for science and drug development
  • Proven ability to speak the language of a drug discovery and biotechnology company and ability to simplify and ably communicate scientific concepts to external audiences
  • A proven culture creature who utilizes various internal communication channels to increase engagement and company pride
  • Have demonstrated the ability to create and implement effective processes from scratch that increase impact and efficiency
  • Understanding of FDA and other regulations impacting healthcare communications
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain relationships with company executives, media, patient advocacy organizations and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work diplomatically and tactfully with others
  • A "cut off your sleeves" mentality
  • Proven ability to establish internal communication and change management best practices
