About Nurix

Nurix Therapeutics discovers drugs that harness the body's natural process to control protein levels.

Job Description

Nurix Therapeutics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of small molecule therapies designed to modulate cellular protein levels as a novel treatment approach for cancer and immune disorders. Leveraging Nurix’s extensive expertise in E3 ligases together with its proprietary DNA-encoded libraries, Nurix has built DELigase, an integrated discovery platform to identify and advance novel drug candidates targeting E3 ligases, a broad class of enzymes that can modulate proteins within the cell. Nurix’s drug discovery approach is to either harness or inhibit the natural function of E3 ligases within the ubiquitin proteasome system to selectively decrease or increase cellular protein levels.

Nurix’s wholly owned pipeline comprises targeted protein degraders of Bruton’s tyrosine kinase, a B-cell signaling protein, and inhibitors of Casitas B-lineage lymphoma proto-oncogene-B, an E3 ligase that regulates T cell activation. Nurix is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

We are looking for an experience Chemistry leader to head our Discovery Chemistry Group, encompassing our DNA encoded libraries (DEL), hit validation, and technology development.  They will:

Oversee the continued expansion of the Nurix screening deck through DEL design and synthesis.

Ensure the smooth execution of hit validation workflows by interfacing with DEL data analysis, machine learning, and management of hit resynthesis resources.

Expand the frontiers of the DEL platform by continued efforts in chemistry development, screening optimization, and enable new technologies.

  • Lead library strategies that complement existing DELs at Nurix and impact the DELigase platform
  • Oversee the timely execution of both on- and off-DNA hit validation
  • Identify and execute on areas of improvement for the DEL platform through tech development
  • Interface with data analysis, protein sciences, and medicinal chemistry to ensure smooth platform function
  • Contribute to the success of both internal and external project teams by guiding junior team members in the hit ID stages of projects and beyond
  • Help define the scientific priorities of the group that align with corporate goals
  • Provide scientific insights and mentorship to young scientists on the team

  • PhD in organic chemistry with 10+ years of experience in small molecule drug discovery
  • Expertise in DEL technology as exemplified by previous experience in the field
  • Track record of success with hit generation workflows across therapeutic areas
  • Broad knowledge of biochemical, biophysical, cell based assays used in early stage drug discovery
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of scientists with a variety of experience levels
  • Effective communicator who leads by example and adapts to conditions on the ground to deliver scientific objectives consistently
