Position Summary 
Plexium seeking a Research Associate to help expand and improve Plexium’s proprietary high throughput transcriptomics assay to perform drug discovery using our best in class DNA encoded chemical libraries. You will join our Discovery Technology team, responsible for using state of the art molecular biology, miniaturized cellular assays, and sequencing technology to advance Plexium’s drug discovery efforts. Specifically, we are seeking a talented, early career molecular biologist, who wants to contribute to an exciting new application of modern RNAseq techniques. Plexium is an ideal environment for those wanting to fully leverage the power of modern DNA sequencing technology for drug discovery.

Essential Job Responsibilities

    • Preparation of samples for Plexium’s custom transcriptomics assay for screening large DNA encoded chemical libraries
    • Optimize custom enzymatic reactions to improve upon Plexium’s proprietary DNA encoding platform
    • NGS library prep and QC (fragment analysis and quantification)
    • Execute well controlled experiments, keep detailed notes, analyze data using Excel and established custom bioinformatics workflows
    • Maintenance of tissue culture and support of screening efforts (passaging, freezing/thawing, plating cells)
    • Maintaining an organized electronic lab notebook
    • Follow, maintain, and improve SOPs, contributing to further improvements to custom workflows
    • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in biology, engineering, bioinformatics, and chemistry

Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 year of hands-on lab experience in molecular biology or related field
    • Must have an understanding of, and strong bench skills in, molecular biology including experience with: PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR, DNA extraction/isolation, DNA QC and fragment analysis, nucleic acid manipulation with enzymes, primer design and sequence evaluation 

Skills and Knowledge

    • NGS library prep and sequencing experience
    • RNAseq or RT-PCR sample prep, particularly scRNAseq
    • Familiar with tools and concepts of bioinformatics
    • Familiar with principles of NGS sequencing and library preparation
    • Mammalian tissue culture or related experience and demonstrated sterile technique
    • Ability to work independently and perform well controlled experiments in an assay development context
    • Detail oriented, strong verbal and written communication skills
